PRELIMINARY REPORT ON COONABARABRAN AREA UFO ACTIVITY
by Bill Chalker
The "Coonabarabran Times" of Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia, in
its November 17th, 1994 issue, carried brief details of an apparent close
encounter with a diamond shaped UFO near ground level on November 15th,
1994, on the Mendooran road.
I have now interviewed the 4 principal witnesses to this apparent close
encounter. On the information supplied to date no apparent explanation can
be offered for this striking case.
It was intially seen as a large light source hovering over the nearby road.
An approaching car appears to has precipitated the object moving off and
coming slowly closer to the farm house, where 4 adults observed it. At its
closest point all witnesses described it as diamond shaped with lights
around the edges, with window like structures within the body of it.
There was a very bright yellow light inside it. It appeared to be a tree
height and of massive dimensions. As the 4 adults left the house verandah
to go closer to the silent object which seemed to be only 300 yards away
and slowly passing along side the house area, it then accelerated at a
phenomenal speed. It disappeared in the distance. It was at this point
that a tremendous high pitched engine noise was heard, almost like a sonic
wave. This was noticed after the object had passed by.
At least 6 weeks earlier a massive light was seen near the property.
It appears neighbours also saw the November 15th object. They are to
be interviewed.
Information was also gathered on a number of other potentially interesting
cases:
* On possibly the same night a driver coming from Sydney to Coonabarabran
had an encounter in which the radio and other electrical items were effected.
* I spoke with a gentleman who witnessed another massive diamond shaped
object while timber cutting near Binaway, back in about 1979. His companion
allegedly took a photograph which my informat indicates he saw. It
apparently showed a silvery shape with sections without the observed lights.
The informant states he was told the army took the photo and he believes
that his companion ended up in a mental home. He implied it was due to the
photo incident. * Another informant indicated he had heard directly from a
Murray Bridge (SA) who had bought a property in the Coonabarabran area.
This man reported that back at the time of the Valentich appearance he had
been on his property working with equipment. He had heard noise over the
equipment which seemed to come from a large object hovering above him.
Some "oil" like material could be seen coming down from this object. The
most bizarre element of this tale was that the farmer saw a plane wing
embedded in the side of the UFO. This wing or part of a part allegedly
had identification numbers on it which coincided with the Valentich
aircraft! Obviously this story requires more information. I have this
nagging feeling I've heard something like this story before. Anyone else
have any info?
* Another sighting out Moree way, about a decade ago, involving young man
night ploughing. Beam of light lit up the area. Where the beam touched
the ground there grass was allegedly burnt. I had a similar case out Cowra
way! Investigations are continuing.
Regards, Bill Chalker.
